I find my joy in simple things:
An apple, old letters, a bird that sings;
A misty sunrise at crack-of-dawn,
your shadow dancing across my lawn.
A baby's smile, an aged face,
a fleecy cloud in far-off space;
A gurgling brook, a mountain high,
a peek-a-boo sun, a clear blue sky.
A pasture green with daisies white,
a yoghurt moon on a star-sprinkled night.
A harmonica serenade by the old windmill,
dancing geraniums on my windowsill.
Tip-toeing raindrops waltzing on tin-roofs awhile
like the persistent cheerfulness on a beggar child;
Perfect-hair days and cakes that don't burn,
autum leaves dotting cobbled streets at every turn.
Air-borne handkerchiefs trimmed with lace,
beneath cherry blossoms my dreaming place.
A prayer, a poem, a quietness,
old friends, a trust - my happiness...
A heartful of love can be found
with simple faith that is profound.
